ABSTRACT

Amyloidosis is a group of disorders with diverse etiology and characterized by extracellular deposition of amyloid fibrils formed by misfolded proteins. It may ultimately result in multiple tissue injury and progressive disruption of organ function. Amyloidosis is rare and amyloidosis involving gastrointestinal tract is relatively rare,so that gastrointestinal amyloidosis is easily to be misdiagnosed in clinical practice and the prognosis is usually poor. In this review article, the progress in research on amyloidosis, especially gastrointestinal amyloidosis was briefly summarized for improving the understanding, diagnosis and management of gastrointestinal amyloidosis.
